In a wonderful surprise yesterday, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he does support Marriage Equality. Powell now joins a series of African-American leaders who very vocally support marriage equality, including Russell Simmons, the Rev. Al Sharpton, and Jay-Z.
Support for Marriage Equality from the African-American community is now at an all time high of 59% according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll.
It looks as though Republicans are on the WRONG side of history.

There is a first time for everything. Ok so there is a millionth time for everything.
Small baby steps in the right direction.
I meant first time the republicans were wrong. lol
Hey, I hadn’t heard this! This is great news! Statements like this by figures like him — unquestionably powerful and respected — mean a lot to the effort.
Now, I’d like to see Powell do some serious work on Obama’s behalf for the re-election effort. He was comparatively quiet about it in 2008, but cast a big shadow over McCain’s campaign.
Yes, it would be nice to see Powell do some repair work for the damage he is in part responsible for during the W years. I, too, would like to see some real action on his part to support Obama.
For some Republicans, being on the wrong side of history doesn’t bother them, so long as they are remembered. I am firmly convinced that Newt Gingrich wants to be acknowledged in the history books as villain, because then he at least is in them.
Christine,
Dear heart makes me so sad, probably because I fear you are so very accurate.
