Iowa Judges Ousted for Doing Their Jobs

3 Nov

It’s hard to pick my least favorite event from yesterday’s scary elections, but this is probably it. A “family values” coalition ironically named Iowa For Freedom succeeded in convincing Iowa voters to oust three Supreme Court judges who ruled in favor of marriage equality. Iowa’s constitution allows for a retention vote on judges; if not retained replacements will be appointed. So much for wanting a fair, impartial judiciary.

Living in a state that elects its judges… I’m totally against it… totally (electing judges that is). As I previous mentioned, the passions that rule elections should never dictate courtroom decisions.
