Bigot of the Week Award: December 3

3 Dec

Before I announce this weeks BWA, I would like to refresh every one’s memory of the definition of Fascism:

any ideology or movement inspired by Italian Fascism, such as German National Socialism; any right-wing nationalist ideology or movement with an authoritarian and hierarchical structure that is fundamentally opposed to democracy and liberalism; a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism,  regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

With that out of the way, it would certainly seem that John Boehner merits the dubious BWA, and he is most definitely part of the problem.

However, this week’s BWA goes to Bill Donohue of The Catholic League, “that one-guy-with-a-computer outfit headed by anti-gay nutjob…[who] has successfully pressured the Smithsonian into removing an AIDS-themed video exhibit by the late gay artist David Wojnarowicz.”  So much for freedom of expression, freedom of speech.  The Smithsonian needs to be SHAMED here as well for kowtowing to bigots like Donohue and Boehner.  What’s next, shall we ask Johnnetta Cole to shut down the African Art exhibit because it offends Glenn Beck?  If you are not outraged, you should be!  We are in serious trouble as a nation when we allow extremist voices to dictate “appropriate content” for art installations in national museums. Here is the article in full.
