Those of you who know me know of my long love affair with Dame Helen Mirren. She is the one woman I would turn straight for–okay maybe Emma Thompson as well. On December 10, 2010 Mirren received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award. When you see this video of our Dame Helen and how she “hoik my spanx,” it is obvious why she should be honored on International Women’s Day. The video is just over 6 minutes, but you will not want to miss any of these 6 minutes. Mirren is witty, candid, and absolutely brilliant in the way she calls out bad behavior: With all respect to you many brilliant and successful women in this room, really not much has changed in the canon of Hollywood filmmaking that continues to worship at the altar of the 18- to 25-year-old male … and his penis. Mirren’s speech inspires us all to do better to be better people to wipe out discrimination of all forms. Click here to read the article and watch the video.
