Hero of the Week Award: May 6

Hero of the Week

While Minnesota has to endure the big ball of crazy that is Michele Bachmann, now the religious right, not satisfied with the current ban on marriage equality, is trying to make the ban a constitutional amendment.  However, amid the absolute craziness of the functioning illiterate and the KKKristians, we have Rep. Steve Simon (D-MN) emerging as this weeks’ hero.  Simon said on Wednesday that being gay is a gift from God.  Simon’s challenge to his colleagues, most definitely, earned his this week’s HWA:

What I’m hearing today and what I heard on Friday was largely a religious justification for change in the Minnesota Constitution. I don’t think that’s right. I don’t think that’s fair.

Simon went on to say:

How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether or not God actually wants them around?

Bravo, Rep. Simon.  Would that more of our political leaders show such courage and true leadership.  Click here to see the full article. Of course, I could not resist adding this bit from our Lady Gaga. A nod to my friend John Abbot for lending me KKKristians.

In regards to this statement of his, “How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether or not God actually wants them around?” Holy cow, that’s an entirely new take on the similar argument of I was born this way so therefore its perfectly normal. How on earth do either of those statements hold water? God created a lot of other people that do odd things and there are lots of people born with interesting proclivities. Does that necessarily mean that said people and actions are good? Not so much. Science tends to believe that sociopaths are born that way and well, I’m sure God created them too, so that makes them a-ok, right?
I have no general stance on how gays come about but the born this way argument annoys the crap outta me, so to hear a religious man stating that God made gays so therefore they’re great is quite odd.

Podunk, I can assure you NO ONE would EVER choose to be gay. Why would anyone wish to live in such a way that religious bigots would murder us, people would denigrate and judge us, and a myraid of other “negative” actions and words from those who use their ‘religious’ beliefs as an excuse to commit hatred and bigotry, violence and even murder. So, if we had a CHOICE, do you really believe that we could possibly ever be stupid enough to choose to be gay? It is neither logical, nor reasonable nor sensible to believe that any of us humans had any sort of choice about our sexual orientation. So, God did make us this way, if there is a god, just like he made heterosexuals the way they are. It is not your place or anyone else’s to judge another person-EVER! Did you decide to be hetero? When? No, you didn’t, you just are the way God made you, so stop being annoyed at the truth-it is what it is. It is as normal to be gay as it is normal to be hetero-heteros are the freaks to us, and we are the freaks to heteros. Both are right and both are wrong-in all cases, nothing was any sort of a CHOICE! If we had a choice, so did heteros. We all had a choice, or we all had no choice-the key is ALL of us decided or none of us decided. Pick one. It is illogical to think one group had a choice while another did not have the same choice. So, we were BORN this way, like it or not. ALL OF US!
