Bigot of the Week Award: June 10

Bigot of the Week

This week’s bigot was so nefarious, so contemptible that I had to just breathe for several minutes before I could compose this article.  Tracy Morgan did a stand up performance in Nashville, TN that was mortifyingly homophobic and misogynistic.  If there is such a thing as karma, Morgan will be stuck in Nashville for the rest of his life.  I have such little tolerance for marginalized people to then marginalize others–it is despicable and unconscionable.  As part of the performance, Morgan said: “If my son were gay I’d stab him to death.”  This certainly earns Morgan the BWA and I would say adds him to the nominees for the Bigot of the Year Award.  His extended homophobic bigoted rant made me purple with anger, but also sends up huge Gay Pride Flags–methinks he doth protest too much.  Am I the only one that wonders if he and Larry Craig are playing footsie in the men’s bathroom stall together?  Morgan went on to say: “Tracy then said he didn’t fucking care if he pissed off some gays, because if they can take a fucking dick up their ass… they can take a fucking  joke.”  Wow!  You are a charmer, aren’t you?  TSM welcomes a response from Tina Fey or anyone from NBC, parties responsible for Morgan’s continued inclusion on 30 Rock.  Shame on all of you!  Employing someone this reprehensible should have economic consequences — will we need a boycott? Here are the two sources I used: click here and click here.

Does he really expect to keep working in Hollywood now? Did he not pay any attention to what happened to Isaiah Washington six years ago? It wasn’t even an attempt ot be funny, it was just a rant about how he wanted gay people to die. It was disturbing at the least. I wonder if he will ultimately comment.

Thank you for including the link. Yes, I, too, thought about what happened to Washington. I fear the coward Morgan is trying to hide under the cloak of “humor.” It is not funny!

Semi-apology issued. Disingenuous to say the least:

    Here’s Tina Fey’s remarks on Morgan: http://amywhipple.tumblr.com/post/6414942228/i-love-tina-fey-im-glad-to-hear-that-tracy

Debbie, thank you for posting Tina Fey’s apology for Morgan. I fear it does not resonate with me in the least. I find it tepid at best. LIke Isaiah Washington who lost his job for far less bigoted language, so it would seem that Morgan needs to start looking for a new job. I truly feel bad for all of the young people that may be thinking about coming out to their parents and now worrying about that decision. Justifiably so, MIchael Richards lost his career after making racist comments. The take away for me is that we must stand united in eradicating all forms of racism, homophobia, and misogyny and recognize how they are linked together.

Just read an update on Tracy Morgan:
    http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/13/tracy-morgan-plans-meetings-to-make-amends-for-anti-gay-comments/?partner=rss&emc=rss

Following the widespread uproar over a recent standup routine that was condemned for several anti-gay remarks, Tracy Morgan said he will meet with gay youths in New York and return to Tennessee, where he performed the show, to apologize to people who were offended by his act.

Jen, thank you for the update and for including the link. I fear I don’t believe him and I don’t want him around any LGBT youth. His apology does not resonate as something organic. As if Tennessee was offended–oy! I must take solace in knowing that we have beautiful and wonderful hetero allies like you!

A clear condemnation in the Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-raushenbush/fire-tracy-morgan_b_875351.html?ref=fb&src=sp

Debbie, thank you for the link to Raushenbush’s article. He is absolutely right. Morgan should be fired!

you people are so boring, maybe instead of ranting about everything “misogynistic” and just let people live their lives you’d be alot happier, you judge people everyday based off their race or sex you’re guilty of the same crimes….seriously lighten up
