Everybody Hates Chris: Chris Rock Bigot at Large

11 Jun

Waiting for Rock to join them.

Right now there is a good reason for everyone to hate Chris Rock.  He has just publicly come out in support of the talentless and bigoted Tracy Morgan. Rock defended the homophobic and misogynistic comments of Morgan, saying:

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in world where Tracy Morgan can’t say foul inappropriate shit.

Really?  So advocating violence against the LGBT community is acceptable?  What kind of sociopathy is our culture celebrating here?  Thank goodness The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) quickly released the following statement:

Language about stabbing kids for being gay isn’t ‘foul.’ It’s dangerous.

It seems to me that GLAAD is stating the obvious here, but apparently this is not obvious to homophobic bigots like Rock and Morgan.  Perhaps Rock, Morgan, and Mel Gibson can work on a project together where they can spew hate at all the Jews and gays.  What a Ménage à Trois that would be.  Click here to see the full article.

Chris Rock has offered a formal apology and has retracted his support for Tracy Morgan. Given Rock’s established commitment to eradicating homophobia, racism, and misogyny, I fully believe his apology. I suspect he tweeted before he had a chance to look at the hate spewed by Morgan.

Tina Fey did the same thing. I think that a comic and performer’s gut reaction is to defend the free speech of their colleagues and they could easily see the roles reversed. However, context is everything and when you read the context of his talk and how unapologetic he was about it afterwards, it wasn’t just a bad joke gone awry – he was standing on stage and attacking homosexuals.

Imagine if a white comic told a joke about if his daughter who brought home a ni**er, and the father said he’d hang him from a tree in the back yard? Would Morgan and Rock, and Fey defend that as free speech? I don’t think so! The NAACP would be all over that, AS THEY SHOULD! I’m just very tired of oppressed people participating in the oppression of other oppressed peoples. Homophobia, misogyny, and racism are all very connected.

Actually, Lisa Lampenelli (that I know you and I love) uses the n**** word in her act all the time. A big part of her shtick is that she dates, almost exclusively, Black men. Then again, she’s not up there making jokes about lynching her dates. There are a lot of ‘edgy’ comics. However, his was a rant – an angry, hate-fueld rant.

Nice example of distinguishing comedy from a platform to spew hate and promote violence.
