Bigot of the Week Award: June 17

17 Jun

Thank you to my friend and ally Jennifer Locket for inspiring this story.  What a sad contrast to our HWA story.  The former New York Giants wide receiver (pun intended), David Tyree has come out against the LGBT community revealing both his bigoted views and possibly his own struggle/ issues with homosexuality.

Tyree’s rant  that marriage equality was the first step on the road to ANARCHY earns him this week’s BWA.  If gay marriage is that threatening to heterosexual unions, they must be quite fragile, indeed.  I’m still nonplussed by heterosexuals so consumed with thinking about homosexuality.  I have to say I don’t ever think about my heterosexual brothers and sisters having sex.  Click here to see the full story and video.

Daphiny, you are such a lovely wonderful woman! Yes, thank you for pointing out his slap in the face of single mothers, such as his own. I do suspect he is fighting many internal demons.

Well, as my grandfather (who played iron-man football at Georgia Tech) would snark, “Well… he is *special teams*” (he never considered special teams players to be ‘real football players’). I wonder if he noted that his remarks came on the anniversary of the marriage of the Lovings – the famous interracial couple who were married in June 1958 and ultimately resulted in the Supreme Court upholding the rights of interracial couples to marry (Loving vs. the Commonwealth of Virginia). Would he consider those unions to be ‘anarchical’?

Jen, I absolutely love you for pointing us to Loving v. Commonwealth of Virginia. Perfectly parallel situation.
