Bigot of the Week Award: August 19, Adam Carolla

Bigot of the Week

Adding himself to the list of so-called comedians who think homophobia is funny, Adam Carolla rants his way into this week’s Bigot of the Week Award. On his regular podcast, Carolla launched into a tirade against the LGBT community, wondering:

When did we start giving a shit about these people?

He was particularly viscious toward the transgender community, tellling them to “shut up” and “stop ruining my life” while making some very nasty comments about Chaz Bono. Sadly, this is part of a long history of homophobia and racism from Carolla.

Like the other homophobes caught in the spotlight, Carolla offered a tepid apology. In his case, it was so weak that not even GLAAD, which accepted apologies from Tracy Morgan and Kobe Bryant, took him at his word. His defense?

I’m a comedian, not a politician.

Really? Carolla should pick up a dictionary. Comedians are supposed to be funny and hate should never equal humor.

Yes, big surprise to add misogyny to the list. I would call him a pig but I hate to insult pigs.

I’ve never been a fan of Corolla. If it helps… he’s got a lot of serious personal issues… a lot. His homophobia is the least of his problems.

Talk about cherry picking to make a point. Also when you preface something with “I’ve never been a fan of, or I don’t like this anyway but” it completely invalidates what you have to say. You would obviously not listen to someone you don’t like so why would you weigh in on anything about them? Anything else you are not into you want to share an opinion on? Want to review a movie you haven’t seen because an actor is in it you don’t like or tell me about a video game when you don’t play video games?

I will give you one thing, if you take those selected sentences and don’t take into account anything said before or after it does look bad.

He has said many times that in fifty years people will look back on those who said gay people can’t marry or have the same rights as gay people like we look back on folks who thought we should have segregated drinking fountains and schools. He is just making a joke about being sick of hearing the same arguments his whole life much like the legalize marijuana people. Interesting point he was also said the legalize it folks are ruining his life with complaining, does he hate pot or people that smoke it? no.

Just because you support something doesn’t mean you have to take part and love it. In your rush to pretend like you are fighting a 1960’s style battle for human rights don’t make mountains out of mole hills just to have something to fight against when you already have the entire southern united states.

      Defending bigotry? Wow!

“the entire southern united states”? i think that’s pretty myopic. there is enough homophobia nationwide that we don’t need to scapegoat an entire region and all of its inhabitants. While it’s true that there may be more resistance to gay rights per capita in the southern states, there are also many, many people there who are enlightened and accepting of difference. let’s not forget that the south gave us two of the most important human rights figures of our history: martin luther king and jimmy cater….
