May 19, 2014 what a lovely, historic day for the state of Oregon and for the country. The Honorable Judge McShane made it clear that same sex couples should enjoy the privileges of marriage. This is a time to rejoice and celebrate, for I believe that the liberation of LGBT people only contributes to the liberation of cisgender heterosexuals. Here we have a decision that has a far reaching ripple effect. Marriage equality by design addresses issues of sexual orientation, race, class, privilege, power, and the intersections of all of these identities.
Well Done! It looks like Robert and I need to get in line to get a marriage license. Today we celebrate and tomorrow we pick up the torch to continue our dedication to expanding civil rights for all.
Michael I am so excited! Please let me know when you and Robert receive your marriage license so that we may celebrate the government finally recognizing the commitment that you both made long ago. This is well over due!
Jen, thank you for being such a strong ally! Save your money so you can come to our official ceremony!
Wonderful news, Michael! Cher xo
Thank you, Cher! Lots of happy joyful tears here!!! 🙂
Awh, bless! Yes, and rightfully so! Big hugs, Cher xo
Cher, thank you! Thank you for your constant voice for social justice and for your solidarity!
Thank YOU, Michael, for bringing awareness to the forefront on issues that are so incredibly important to all of us!! I feel that (albeit in a small way) I try every day here in Chicago to bring my “Canadian” ideals to others; namely, equality, respect, fairness, and kindness. Last week I did a post about a blind friend of mine at a bus stop: http://wp.me/p4doQv-jT It is this kind of behavior that makes me KNOW we have lots more work to do, but I’m certainly willing to try and make changes! Cher xo
Thank you, Cher! Nice to be in such good company!
Right back at you, Michael!! 🙂
