Trump Avoids Devouring Children, Wins Debate

26 Sep

trump-loves-childrenYet another disturbing week, as I had to hear Donald Trump decry the upcoming debate as being rigged against him. Trump, always a stranger to the truth, declared that he was at a disadvantage because NBC’s Lester Holt is the moderator and is a liberal Democrat. (Fact Check: Lester Holt is actually a registered Republican–a black Republican, which is just a bit too much to unpack here in this article.)

I would also remind people that NBC seems to embrace Trump at every turn. Case in point: Jimmy Fallon of NBC’s The Tonight Show was paling around with Trump and messing up his hair — oh, that wacky duo, what fun! Seriously? What the hell? Thank you, Mr. Fallon for helping to normalize racism, misogyny, homophobia, and hate. Another example, Saturday Night Live welcomed Trump to host — again thank you NBC for helping to normalize deplorable behavior! Let us not forget NBC’s Matt Lauer’s interview with Trump and with Clinton. You know you have sullied yourself beyond repair Mr. Lauer, when Fox News congratulates you on what a fine job you did.

More concerning for me, in addition to the pathological liar Trump is, is that there is a disgraceful double standard already at play against Hillary Clinton. I do agree with Trump that the debate is rigged, but I fear it is to his benefit. All Trump has to do to be declared a winner for this debate is to accomplish the following: not bite off the head of a small child while on stage, not refer to his penis and small hands, and finally (and this is a big ask) not throw one of his usual temper tantrums.  Yes, the bar has been set quite low here for Trump. Despite this embarrassing standard for a presidential nominee, I suspect it maybe difficult for him to not present himself as the bullying, bloviating, bigot that he is.

Yes, we already know that Hillary has many tricks up her sleeve. I have actually heard that she will be using facts and actual experience to draw from for the debate! How very dare she? Where the bar has been set for Trump, perhaps just an inch above the ground, the bar for Hillary has been set exponentially and disproportionately higher. However will she combat the horrific scandal of Pneumonia Gate? Can you imagine someone getting sick and then taking off a few days to recuperate? If that is not a scandal, then I don’t know what one is. Clinton is up against over 30 years of being vilified. Sadly, millenials only know the narrative created and produced by right-wing conservatives who have made it their life’s work to pillory Hillary Clinton. Here is a link to 19 pages of lies told by Trump.

My hope is that the debate is not a one man circus for Trump, but rather we can see that this is not who we want to lead our country; that Trump is not who we want as the ambassador for the world to see. This is an opportunity for Clinton to draw from her successful career and address that she is in fact exceedingly qualified for the job of President. Let us hope that the media, famously obsessed with false standards of “equivalence”, focus on presidential standards and not ratings fodder.

Rep. Todd Akin Achin’ to be the Craziest Senator

20 Aug

I don’t understand English, biology, or simple human decency.

Rep. Todd Akin (R – MO) was on tap for Bigot of the Week but has managed to produce such loathsome insanity that he needed to be exposed before Friday. The Representative from Missouri’s 2nd District recently won the Republican primary to run against Sen. Claire McCaskill. In an interview with KTVI-TV, he spouted this misogynistic idiocy:

First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. […] Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.

AARRRGGHHH!! Where do we start when dealing with this? The blatantly false — if often repeated — myth that rape victims can’t get pregnant, even though thousands do every year? The patronizing patriarchy that assumes women’s bodies have magical powers but that women’s minds can’t be trusted to make sound medical and ethical decisions? The concept of “legitimate rape,” which is a disgusting Republican talking point for FORCIBLE rape? The discussion of punishments without any consideration of the woman? Congratulations, Rep. Akin, you’re officially nominated for bigot (and idiot) of the year.

Clearly the Akin campaign is attempting to create a Senator stupider than Rand Paul and far to the right of Jim DeMint. Who knew that even one of those was possible, much less both! Sadly, the Republican Party has now become the Party of Insanity and Lies.  Long past are the days of the Gerald Ford  and Mark Hatfield Republicans.  Anyone who has studied history can see the new Tea/Republican Party is Fascism.

Akin backpedalled slightly with the famous Republican nonpology “I misspoke.” But while he implied that he was wrong about basic biology, he stood firm on the “no abortions ever under any circumstance” ground.

The one upside to this blast of tea vomit is that it may help Democrats hold the Senate. McCaskill, who narrowly won her first term in the 2006 Democratic surge, is easily the most endangered incumbent in the Senate this year. She was polling down double digits against “generic Republican” before the primaries. Once Missouri knew that Akin was their other choice, she started gaining ground. Let’s hope that Akin has dug himself a hole so deep that he can’t dig out by November.

P.S. – The Romneybot / Ryandrone campaign has weighed in on Akin’s comments as well.

Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin’s statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape.

This, of course, is notable as Romney’s 5000th flip-flop of the year. And, let’s face it, if the Republicans take the Senate and hold the house, a bill that includes Rep. Akin’s ideas could easily pass both chambers. Can you really imagine Romney vetoing any anti-abortion legislation, regardless of what he says today?

Another Queen of Mean: Does Hate Sell?

The Queen of Mean

My husband and I usually enjoy watching Real Time With Bill Maher.  While I do consider him, in many ways, a typical white, hetero, frat boy, I like his politics and I like that his ability to be politically incorrect allows him to expose hypocrites.

Sadly, we turned on the television to watch his show only to see Ann(thrax) Coulter on his panel. My tolerance for venom is at an all time low. We see and get enough of it from Michele Bachmann and her “straight” husband.  I was also sad that Maher gave her any airtime, especially since she was on there to plug her new book, DemonicHow the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America.  Quite honestly, when I saw the title Demonic, I was expecting a tell all book about her clandestine affair with the Devil, but then when I last spoke to Satan, he said she was kind of mean and was off putting.

Anthrax’ latest rant is to do some more gay bashing: reporting that she wished there were a DADT policy for society and how she wished we would just go away.  Well, if all of the heterosexuals would quit producing LGBT kids, she could have her wish. I, for one, am glad we are not going anywhere.

From a sociological perspective, I’m curious as to why people are attracted to Coulter? She hates women, she is against reproductive rights, she hates, the LGBT community, she hates Muslims, she seems to hate anyone that is not white, heterosexual and Christian. When will her type of hate stop selling?  When will others turn off their televisions, as we did and say enough is enough? I now point you to a blog from a friend of mine who also anticipates the desirable decline of Coulter.

Bigot of the Week

I was going to give Herman Cain the BWA again for continuing on his rant about Muslims, but I hate to give him even more attention. Cee-Lo Green earns this week’s BWA for his homophobic tweet in response to a bad review he received over one of his concerts.  Green tweeted: “@gimme_noise I respect your criticism but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing ur gay? and my masculinity offended you? Well f*** u!”  My another charmer!  Actually, the reviewer was a woman, not a man.  Women are writers and reviewers now, but thanks for the misogyny.

I’m guessing ur gay? and my masculinity offended you? Well f*** u!

Really?  Wow! Insecure much? I’m not sure the problem is people being offended by your “masculinity.”  I am offended by your homophobia though.

Your apology: “Apologies gay community! What was homophobic about that? I said I was guessing he [was] gay which is fine but its nice to [know] what u think of me.”  I’m not sure you understand what the word apology means.  Click here to see the full article.

Rick Santorum: Raging Hypocritical Misogynist

17 Jun

Hate Women, Hate Gays

Yes, Rick (the P is silent) Santorum proves again he is a bigoted, homophobic, hypocritical, misogynistic ball of crazy.  Santorum continues to rail against reproductive rights for women and categorically dismisses any circumstance for abortion, calling any exception, “phony excuses.”  Unfortunately, the war against reproductive rights for women is in full battle, with many states having already passed legislation making it illegal to have an abortion at 20 weeks. How hypocritical for Santorum to make an exception for his wife, but disregards all other women in the United States:

Karen [Santorum] was going to die if her pregnancy was not ended, if the fetus was not removed from her body. So, at 20 weeks, one month before what doctors consider ‘viability’, labor was artificially induced and the infected fetus was delivered. It died shortly thereafter.

I have to wonder what happened to this man to cause him to hate women and gays so much.  I also wonder how he would feel if the government wanted control of his body and his reproductive organ.  I’m very glad that Karen was able to have this abortion, but is it not only fair to ensure that all women have safe legal access to abortion? Bigot of the Week Award

Of course, Nike earns a dishonorable mention this week for its full support of the bigot Kobe Bryant.  Just a point of interest: Gilbert Gottfried was immediately terminated by Aflac for his distasteful jokes about the earthquake in Japan, as he should have been. When Kobe Bryant says “faggot,” Nike’s response is: we fully support the athlete Kobe, despite what our hollow diversity statement purports. Boycott Nike!

How very sad for our LGBT brothers and sisters in Montana this week when Judge Jeffrey Sherlock ruled that it is completely legal to discriminate against same-sex couples.  The six couples were not pushing for marriage equality, but rather  they wanted to be able to make burial, health care and other decisions, while enjoying such benefits as jointly filing taxes.  Sherlock’s verdict earns him this week’s BWA.  Same-sex couples don’t even have hospital visitation rights to see their partners.  Montana’s attorney general responded that: Montana can’t extend spousal benefits to gay couples because those benefits are limited to married couples by definition.  Then allow for Marriage Equality you bunch of bigots.  We can add Montana as not a safe place for the LGBT community–if you go to visit, be sure to wear your pink triangle!

Bigot of the Week

Obviously, Kobe the Homophobic Bigot Bryant earns a dishonorable mention this week.  Stay tuned to read about the reaction from Nike and if they will keep the Bigoted Bryant as a spokesperson for their products.

This week’s BWA, however, goes to Bret Easton Ellis.  Some of you may remember Ellis as the writer of American Psycho and Less Than Zero. Ellis’ comments were particularly cruel and venomous. Here are some of the unforgivable comments made by the washed-up has-been writer:

I like the idea of Glee but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?

This comment alone is so offensive on so many fronts.  The blatant homophobia combined with the disgusting discrimination against those battling HIV is nothing less than sociopathic. (Click here to see the first source).  The self-identifying bisexual Ellis then followed with several TweetsNot to bum everyone out, but can we get a reality check here? It gets worse. The next tweet, pushes this pacifist to want to have Ellis committed to a psychiatric ward:

No, I wasn’t drunk last night. I was watching Chris Colfer singing, um, “Le Jazz Hot” and I felt like I had suddenly come down with the hivs.

Regardless if Ellis is just doing this to get some attention because he is no longer in the spotlight, this type of homophobic and discriminatory/inflammatory language shows some significant pathology. American Psycho indeed.
