Why I Have Decided to Vote Republican…

2 Jan

I don't ever have to think again.

I have clearly been misguided for far too long!  This video has proven in every way why I need to vote Republican as a gay feminist working to eradicate racism, misogyny, homophobia, and classism.  Click here to watch the video!

Number 2 Hero of the Year Award 2011: Occupy Movement

30 Dec

Number 2 Hero of 2011

Thank you to the overwhelming number of TSM readers for nominating the Occupy Movement for Hero of the Year!  How I understand the Occupy Movement is that finally the 99% woke up and spoke truth to power–the absurd distribution of power and wealth in the United States must come to an end.  Of course, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission certainly brought home the point that America was officially for sale.  Extending the Bush tax cuts to the top 2% of Americans just added insult to injury.  We can thank the Fecal Five for selling out America.

While I only attended a dozen Occupy Portland demonstrations, I was consistently impressed that people were getting the message out about the maniacal distribution of wealth and power, despite the heroic efforts of the media to vilify the movement.  My heart was also warmed when many of my cohort of social workers withdrew their money from the big banks and put it credit unions–go social workers!

My hope is that the Occupy Movement will continue in its various incarnations and will eventually affect real change in how wealth and power are distributed–that humanity will prevail over greed.

Flashback 2010: Number 2 Hero of 2010 was Bernie Sanders.

Target Stores: Now That Takes Chutzpah

27 Mar

Where Ginni Thomas Shops

Not that we needed another reason to continue the boycott of Target stores, but we sure do have one. Unlike some of the celebrities on HGTV that do ads for Target, at least our Lady Gaga has some integrity and refuses to do business with the homophobic company. Now Target is suing a group, Canvass For A Cause, alleging its activists are driving away customers–now that takes some Chutzpah.  Canvass For a Cause is a pro-gay pro-equality group that has been canvassing outside Target Stores in San Diego. Yes, how dare call Target a bigot just because they are!  I’m sure Ginni Thomas will be involved soon, demanding that the LGBT apologize to Corporate Target.  I also feel very bad for all of the LGBT employees of Target–this is not the time to find a new job with an employer that believes in equality, so they are trapped working for a corporate bigot. Bigot of the Week Award: March 25

25 Mar

Bigot of the Week

The Tea Party Brew grows more bitter with each passing day. Unfortunately, Scott Walker and Rick Scott have shared some tea/Kool-aid with Maine Tea Party Gov. Paul LePage (R).  LePage’s latest move to order the removal of of a 36-foot mural depicting Maine’s labor history from the lobby of the state’s Department of Labor offices, claiming they received “some complaints” from business owners, earns him this week’s BWA.

But wait! It gets worse. LePage goes even further to prove that this is now Corporate America and workers are immaterial–slaves really, if you will.  Yes, LePage also ordered eight conference rooms named after labor leaders — including Cesar Chavez— to be renamed. Perhaps we can call one of the conference rooms Koch Industries or Haliburton.  LePage is the same governor that supports rolling back child labor laws.  Bravo!  We don’t need to educate our youth.  Better they learn a trade. I hear 10 year olds make perfect coal miners. Here is a great quote from the Portland Press Herald:

This is political payback, the opposite of putting people first. It’s a spiteful, mean-spirited move by the governor that does nothing to create jobs or improve the Maine economy.

Is anyone paying attention out there?  Wake up America. The Tea Party is not about creating jobs or helping Americans; it continues to prove it is the party of Rich White bigoted Christians!  Time for a recall!  Here are two sources to read for further information. Click here and click here.
